The impact of technical support logistics environment on packaging
2017-3-29
  • The logistics environment refers to the conditions in which goods are located throughout the entire flow process, including material and non-material (such as policies and regulations), and material can be divided into artificial system environment and natural system environment. The packaging design of goods is closely related to its own characteristics, but it is also closely related to the logistics environment.
    (1) Work environment
The work environment refers to the artificial system environment related to material handling and transportation operations. Damage to goods is often caused by transportation, storage, distribution, and the chosen service method. If we adopt our own service approach and use our own staff and tools, the goods can be under our control and the damage rate can be reduced; If outsourcing services are used, the goods may go through many stages and undergo multiple loading and unloading transfers. The company's role in logistics control is extremely limited, and there are more packaging measures to prevent damage to the goods.
In the logistics system, the most common causes of cargo damage are vibration, collision, puncture, and compression. Vibration is common during transportation; Collisions can occur during transportation and handling; Piercing is usually caused by sharp objects around the work site during transportation; Squeezing mainly occurs during stacking, and excessively high stacking can cause deformation and crushing of the underlying goods.
    (2) Natural environment
The natural environment mainly includes factors such as temperature and humidity, and the external natural environment is mainly related to the stability and variability of packaged goods. Some goods may soften, melt, decompose, deteriorate, or discolor at high temperatures; Some goods may burst, become brittle, or deteriorate at low temperatures. It is worth noting that for goods with temperature requirements, packaging alone is not enough, and necessary measures need to be taken in terms of transportation and storage conditions.
Water and steam cause significant damage to goods, with hazards exceeding temperature. Almost the vast majority of goods will suffer varying degrees of damage in humid environments, such as rusting, mold growth, shrinkage deformation, and in severe cases, corrosion and deliquescence. Good packaging is the most effective way to deal with unexpected moisture situations, in addition to avoiding placing goods in damp environments.
Other factors such as harmful chemicals in the air, some goods are easily contaminated by chemicals and deteriorate; Some goods are also afraid of light and may change color or deteriorate when exposed to light, requiring special packaging measures.
